Custom Boot Fitting

Boots are the most important part of your ski setup.

A great day on the mountain starts with a great fit. Every foot is different, and while ski boots are made to accommodate a certain range of foot shapes, all skiers will benefit from professional boot fitting to find the boot that matches your foot most precisely. At Cedar Sports, we stretch shells, heat mold liners, and mold custom footbeds to match your feet precisely. When your boots fit right, everything else just clicks—and your time on the slopes becomes that much more enjoyable.

Foot Analysis

The foundation of a proper boot fit.

Finding the right ski boot goes far beyond just knowing your size. Our boot fitters take into account the width, height, and volume of your foot to match you with a boot that fits comfortably AND holds you snug and secure. This allows you to ski harder, longer, and with more confidence. We also identify trouble spots that could benefit from some modification to achieve your perfect fit, such as bunions, stiff ankles, or collapsed arches. Whether you're looking for your first boot or trying to find a high performance boot to use for years to come, it all starts here.

Foot analysis is complimentary with every new boot purchase or boot adjustment.

Custom Insoles

The next step in comfort and control.

Footbeds (also known as insoles) can greatly impact the feel and performance of a ski boot, and they have a lot more going on than you might think. Beyond simply accommodating your heel shape and arch height, our footbeds can be tuned for softness and stiffness, allowing for greater shock absorption or for improved response and performance. Our boot fitters analyze how your foot flexes through the arch and ankle, take precise molds of your feet, and use the right materials to create a footbed catered perfectly to your foot and how you ski.

Boot Modifications

The secret to all-day performance.

At the end of the day, despite all we do, a ski boot is still a hard plastic shell that we jam our feet into. To have a truly comfortable, snug, high performance fit, we need to make that shell match the shape and angle of your foot. Our boot fitters mold and modify the foam liners, add heel lifters for stiff or shallow ankles, and stretch and grind away high pressure spots in the shell, to bring your boot to an ideal fit customized exactly to your foot. From mild pain to changes from injury or surgery, or if you just want that perfect fit and high performance feel, boot modification at Cedar Sports is your answer.

What to Expect

At Cedar Sports, our goal is to give you ski boots that fit so well you hardly think about them — except for how great they feel on the mountain. Your appointment will last between 30 and 90 minutes, depending on your needs.

Every fitting begins with a free foot analysis, whether you’re buying new boots or looking to solve problems with your current pair. This includes checking correct sizing, foot width, instep height, foot flexibility, and identifying any trouble spots such as bone spurs or other pressure areas.

From there, our boot fitters will recommend the right boot model and size or outline solutions for improving the fit of your existing boots. We’ll fine-tune the fit using proven techniques like heat molding liners, creating custom footbeds, and making targeted shell adjustments to eliminate pressure points and improve comfort, control, and performance.

Before you leave, we’ll make sure your boots feel dialed in and ready for the slopes so you can ski longer, with better control, and greater comfort.

Service Glossary

Boot Shell – The hard plastic outer shell of the ski boot that provides structure and support. Shaped and adjusted during fitting to match the skier’s foot and skiing style.

Boot Liner – The removable, padded inner section of the boot that adds comfort, warmth, and fine-tuned fit. Liners can be heat-molded to conform to the foot.

Last Width – The internal width measurement of the boot at its widest point (usually across the forefoot). A key factor in matching boot shape to foot shape.

Flex Rating – A number indicating how stiff or soft a boot is when flexed forward. Higher numbers = stiffer boots, offering more performance but less forgiveness.

Custom Footbed / Insole – A personalized insert made to support the foot’s natural shape, improve alignment, and increase comfort and control.

Cuff Alignment (Canting) – Adjusting the upper cuff angle so it matches the skier’s lower leg alignment, helping achieve balanced edge control.

Shell Punching / Stretching – Expanding specific areas of the boot shell to relieve pressure points or accommodate bunions, wide forefeet, or other foot shapes.

Instep Height Adjustment – Modifying boot fit over the top of the foot to reduce tightness or improve hold.

Heel Hold Adjustment – Adding padding or making shell/liner tweaks to improve heel retention for better control.

Heat Molding – Using controlled heat to shape liners (and sometimes shells) so they mold to the skier’s feet for a precise fit.

Boot Board – The removable platform inside the boot shell that sits under the liner. Can be ground or shimmed to alter stance, volume, and comfort.

Volume Reduction – Using shims, padding, or thicker liners to take up excess space in the boot for a more precise fit.

Stance Balancing – Adjusting ramp angle, cuff alignment, and footbed support to optimize skiing posture and efficiency.

Custom Liner – A high-performance liner replacement built specifically for the skier’s foot and skiing needs, often heat-moldable or foam-injected.

Foam Injection Liner – A liner that is filled with expanding foam during fitting, creating a fully customized mold of the skier’s foot.

Hot Spot – An area of localized discomfort or pressure inside the boot, often resolved with shell or liner modification.

Alignment Assessment – A process where the boot fitter checks leg length, knee alignment, and natural stance to recommend fitting adjustments.
